  • What is a ceramic coating?

In short, a ceramic coating is a superficial layer that lays on top of your car’s clear coat & can be applied to all painted surfaces. You can even apply ceramic coating to the vehicle trimming, plastics, glass & even the wheels! The benefit to doing so is that it will look different on each surface it is used to, such as making the surface hydrophobic (excellent water repellency), which attributes to the self-cleaning properties of ceramic coatings.

What does this even mean? You may be asking "well when your vehicle has ceramic coating protection, it will let water create these beads on the surface, which can encapsulate the dirt & debris from everyday driving & roll off the vehicle while you are driving. You can imagine this works well when it’s raining, too, so your car will look a little cleaner for longer! The ceramic coating will also give top-tier UV protection from the sun; what does that do for you?

This means it will prolong the aging effect on the vehicle’s paintwork for as long as the coating lasts (3-5 years). In this time period, the paint will not start to fade or oxidize as every other car will that does not have such protection. This also means you will not have to keep spending more time and money when getting your vehicle cleaned adding any wax, sealants, etc.

This is almost like a one & done service in the sense of paint protection; when having your vehicle cleaned, just a simple wash is needed & it will shine as well as it did the day we did the coating!

  • Will a ceramic coating remove scratches?

As stated earlier ceramic coating will have its own distinct benefits, but there are limitations & controversies of what it can do.

Will a ceramic coating remove scratches?

No, but the process of installing a ceramic coating will, that is the process of polishing paint that removes swirls, scratches & minor defects.

Does that mean a new car does not need paint polishing?

No, as mentioned paint polishing does remove the minor imperfections, but more importantly the paint polishing levels out the cars clear coat to promote the best adhesion possible of the ceramic coating to bond & last as long as it should (3-5 years)

  • Will a ceramic coating prevent rock chips & scratches?

Will a ceramic coating prevent rock chips & scratches? No, although ceramic coatings have a very high chemical resistance this does not carry over to physical impact. But in protecting your vehicle, common damages to a vehicle's paint include bird droppings, tree sap, sprinkler systems, and so on. A ceramic coating will fight these damages in the sense of preventing etching into the paint.

  • Why are ceramic coatings so expensive?

We get this question a lot, believe it or not, as customers see an $80-$120 bottle on amazon. The problem is a ceramic coating will not perform well or last if it's just slapped on without the proper prep work & that's where the labor comes in. The good news for you is we work in a team of 2-4 at a time on a vehicle. After all, our goal is to have the vehicle done the same day because we know you need your car! We typically will have a vehicle ready in 3-4 hours between a few guys; this could easily take a non-experienced person a full day at minimum, then the question becomes how valuable your time is. But OK, let's say you want to take the time to do it yourself; what about all the tools needed to get the job done? Let's say you even had the basics at home, like a few buckets & towels. Remember, the ceramic coating will cost you about $80-$120, and you need a polisher that'll easily cost around $200, plus paint prep solvent, compound/polish, clay bar, iron remover & the list goes on from there. I'm hoping by this point you are thinking, wow, now that makes sense but remember, another benefit is that you'll have someone to blame if something goes wrong! We warranty our work so let's just let the pros do what the pros do!

Paint Must Be Protected

Short of permanently parking your ride in an air-tight room, there is no avoiding exposure to Mother Nature, dust, dirt, and other grime in the environment. It doesn’t matter if you drive a brand new million-dollar sports car or a classic pick-up truck, vehicle paint deserves to shine and even more so, must be protected against those contaminants it faces on a daily basis.

At Jr’s AutoSpa, we take ceramic coating installation seriously, leaving no area of your paint, glass, or other more delicate exterior components uncovered. The process of installing either one of our ceramic coating packages is done by hand in a very tactile artistic way. This process includes:

  • Hand washing and decontamination of the vehicle’s exterior
  • Depending on your selected package, we then buff and polish minor abrasions
  • For the One-Step Ceramic Coating, we apply a single layer of ceramic coating by hand
  • For the Two-Step Ceramic Coating, we apply a double layer of ceramic coating by hand
  • Your vehicle will now sit for the recommended curing time to ensure the gloss is flawless and paint protected

Our ceramic coating packages utilize a formula safe for all makes and models, featuring nanotechnology that bonds to your paintwork for extended protection and surface cleanliness.

Hydrophobic Qualities of Ceramic Coatings Defined

We express numerous times throughout our website and with each ceramic coating installation we perform that when complete, the exterior surfaces that have been covered by said ceramic coating are now hydrophobic. But what does that mean exactly?

Thanks to the nanoparticles that bond with your paint while achieving exceptional hardness, water and other liquid contaminants cannot soak in or cause temporary or permanent staining on your surface. Instead, they either run right off or bead up and evaporate.

Maintenance of a ceramic coating is required, though when you or a professional exterior detailer hand washes the surface, less effort and time is required to complete the job.

Notable Ceramic Coating Benefits

Tremendous UV Protection

Ultraviolet rays that the sun gives off are harmful to vehicle paintwork, similar to when you sustain a sunburn, they break down the molecules that make up your paint and cause it to fade in luster. Ceramic coatings resist these rays like a sunscreen for your vehicle.

Simplified Maintenance Routines

Those aforementioned hydrophobic qualities not only resist staining from any type of contaminants, they too allow rain water or other road wash to bead up and run off without causing streaking. You now can wash less after rain or snow.

Unmatched Stain Resistance

When compared to store bought paint sealants and other hand-applied waxes, some of the best ceramic coatings are designed to last for years on end. This is the result of the safe bond they form with your paint-ensuring that stains and residue are no match for your vehicle’s exterior.
